The AMS Tech AD5L is a high-speed CNC EDM Hole Driller that can be equipped with four, five, or six axes. It is also usually equipped with a 20-position Automatic Electrode Changer with guide changer (AEC, optional). It uses water as a dielectric and has an electrode diameter range of .008 ~.236”. It can incorporate “Soft Start” as well as “Breakthrough” burning technology. The AMS Tech AD5L can even burn in the X and Y axes, enabling the production of non-circular holes, such as conical and expanding square or rectangular holes. The new open G code software (Optional) will allow full 3D shape machining, such as diffuser shapes in Aerospace and 1GT applications.
The axes controlled by the CNC are the X, Y, Z, A, B and W (A and B are optional). The X, Y and Z are the same as in conventional machines. The W axis is the axis that actually feeds the electrode during the erosion process. It is usually, but not always, parallel to the Z-axis. The Z-axis positions the guide close to the work piece, and the W axis feeds the electrode into the material.
The A and B axes are rotary axes. The workpiece is almost always fixed to the B axis. The B axis rotates the workpiece 0-360° and the A axis tilts the B axis. Both A and B axes are controlled by the AMS Tech 6-axis CNC control so there is only one program to input, no auxiliary CNC control box to integrate or separate program to write.
